News on Coppermill

In July 2020, we sent an update leaflet to all addresses within the scheme area informing the local community about how Covid-19 had affected funding for highway and transport improvements in the borough; and that Transport for London (TfL) was unable to provide planned funding for Liveable Neighbourhoods schemes across London, including the Coppermill Area scheme.

Instead, TfL provided replacement emergency funding called the “London Streetspace Plan” (LSP), to enable implementation of some highway changes to address various issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The leaflet outlined the changes being taken forward in the Coppermill area with funding from the LSP, and can be accessed by clicking here.

The schemes that were outlined in the above mentioned leaflet have now been implemented. Where measures have been introduced on an interim/ experimental basis, ongoing monitoring is currently taking place to understand how these measures are performing. The results of the monitoring and review process will help inform further decisions on whether to make these measures permanent, make adjustments, or possibly withdraw them.

The council has recently been able to secure further funding from TfL for the Coppermill area. This additional funding will enable some of the other measures planned as part of the original Liveable Neighbourhoods scheme to be delivered. Unfortunately, the additional funding is not sufficient to deliver everything that formed part of the original scheme at this stage, but still represents a significant further investment in the area. These will include the Coppermill Lane corridor improvements, some of the public realm improvements, the highways and pedestrian improvements and the traffic calming improvements.
